BuyingLoft apartments are generally built from former industrial buildings or office buildings. Lofts originally date back to Paris in the mid 19th century as artists' ateliers (workshops). The oversized paintings of the time required expansive high-ceilinged studios. Lofts as residences really took off in New York in an area called SoHo (South of Houston Street) and also known as the Meatpacking District. In the 1940s starving artists illegally occupied abandon warehouses. The population grew and grew to the point where the city rezoned the area to allow for residents and not just commercial use. From there the trend caught on to other major cities including Vancouver and especially Gastown. There is a lot to know about lofts and what makes them so appealing. I think everyone should live in a loft at least once! If you're interested in purchasing a loft or learning more about them please fill out the form below or contact me directly and let's chat.
