Gastown is Vancouver's oldest neighbourhood dating back to 1886 when it was incorporated as the City of Vancouver. Gastown certainly has had it's ups and down over the last century. Gastown quickly emerged as a business district attracting investors, wholesalers, lumberjacks, miners and travelers to name a few. Leading the charge in 1867 was mariner and saloon owner Jack Deighton A.K.A. "Gassy Jack" who's statue stands tall on Carrall St. The good times didn't last forever and Gastown took a turn for the worse until a group of dedicated people rallied to save the neighbourhood in the 1960s. Thanks to them and many others from today Gastown is restored with rich history and character.
Today Gastown is a beautiful blend of old and new buildings for many to call home and it has once again emerged as one of the best neighbourhoods in the city. Gastown offers amazing loft style homes, great restaurants and pubs with old world flare and fine cocktails and thriving businesses all around.
